We are a mixed choir of between 40 to 50 members, and there is usually a fairly equal distribution of voices.
We rehearse in the School Chapel, courtesy of Shrewsbury School , each Wednesday during the Shrewsbury School Term, at 7.30pm . Rehearsals finish promptly at 9.00pm.
Although many of our members live in Shrewsbury, we have some hardy souls who travel in from Mid and North Shropshire, and indeed even from the Welsh borders, so please do not think of us a “Shrewsbury only “choir.
The Choir has been established for nearly 20 years, and there are even some founder members still active!
We have sung many of the great choral works of the Classical repertoire including settings of the Requiem Mass by Mozart, Verdi and Faure. We have also sung both William Byrd’s Four and Five part Masses. As well as these pieces we have also sung Handel’s Acis and Galatea, Dixit Dominus, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Brahms Requiem. We also sing works by Rutter, Vivaldi, Haydn, Vaughan Williams , Elgar and Monteverdi. We also have a “lighter” range of music which we have enjoyed performing in a variety of venues ,from churches to stately homes.
We also enjoy sharing concerts with the Oswestry Sinfonia. Our latest collaboration with them was a premiere of local composer, Mel Mcintyre’s MISSA BREVIS Iin Oswestry. We have also undertaken concerts for the West Mids Show and other local charities.
