Who we are

Shrewsbury Cantata Choir is a mixed voice choir of some 50-60 members, under the musical direction of Anthony Coupe, and based in Shrewsbury. Shropshire.

Where we are

We rehearse in St Nicholas Hall, at Shewsbury United Reformed Church, Coleham Head, Shrewsbury, SY3 7BJ.

What we sing

We have a varied repertoire ranging from major concert works  (recent perfomances have included Verdi: Requiem, Rossini: Petite Messe Solennelle, JS Bach: St Mark Passion  (Reconstruction), Brahms: German Requiem, Mendelssohn: Elijah)  to lighter concerts where we sing a variety of  short pieces, madrigals and modern part songs.

Concerts

Our concerts are three times a year, normally on a Saturday evening.

New members are welcome

We take great pride in the quality of music we produce but this does not prevent us from being a very friendly choir and rehearsals are fun. We welcome singers of all ages prepared to give a high level of commitment to attending rehearsals and taking part in concerts. Experience of choral singing is helpful but not essential.

Prospective new singers are invited to attend a few rehearsals to find out if the choir would suit them.

Please use our contact form or come along to a rehearsal.

Rehearsals

Peter Nottle

The choir is sad to record the death in November 2018 of Peter Nottle, a founder member.

There is a tribute to Peter here.
